Places of Interest in and Around Frome

Whatever your interests there is something for everyone around Frome. It is an ideal centre for visiting Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, Longleat, Stonehenge, Stourhead and many more. See below for details of many local attractions.

Nunney Castle, nr FromeThere are a wealth of historic and picturesque villages within a few miles of the town. Nunney and Farleigh Hungerford have romantic ruined castles. Mells is the home of the famous nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner and the burial place of war poet Siegfried Sassoon. Norton St Philip witnessed a skirmish in the Duke of Monmouth's campaign which led to the last battle on English soil in 1685. Beckington and Rode also have many features of historic interest including fine parish churches. Easy walking trails around all these villages are available from the Tourist Information Centre (see Publications list).

There are renowned towns and cities offering a wide variety of attractions.

Bradford on Avon
is an historic town with Saxon Church, 14th Century Town Bridge and Tithe Barn. It is well known for antiques and collectibles.

The Heritage city of Bath has the world famous Roman Baths, Abbey, Royal Crescent and Thermae Bath Spa. There are numerous museums including the American Museum at Claverton Down. www.visitbath.co.uk

Wells
is the smallest city in England but packed with historic interest from the splendid Cathedral to the moated Bishop's Palace. www.wells.gov.uk

Glastonbury
is the legendary resting place of King Arthur, the Isle of Avalon. There are impressive Abbey ruins and the Tor standing prominently over the surrounding Somerset Levels. www.glastonburytic.co.uk
